That Thing Everyone Has

Opinions.
I considered titling this post the O-word, to be in keeping with my first two posts. I felt like I couldn't keep that up forever, so I went with this title. Anyways.

Opinions. I have one, you have one, you likely have one right now about me discussing mine right now. And that's cool. But the problem comes up when we let everyone tell us their opinions and then try to reform ours around theirs. I know I do this alot based off of what my fiance says or what my parents say or what my pastor says. And, sometimes, that is a good idea. It is good to look at other points of view.
Other times, it's just downright confusing.

For instance, people frequently feel the need to tell me that I should be helping out on Teen Wolf or Vampire Diaries or "Do you know that they're filming that movie with [insert actor's name here]? You should get on that." To which I politely smile and say, "Yeah, that's a great idea!" I do not tell them that I've already tried or that there's not just an online application for movies and TV shows.

People always give their opinions with the best intentions - unless they're your arch nemesis, but then why are you listening to them anyway? But trying to take everyone's advice instead of finding the path that you think would work best for you because of your skills, experience, and desire can be a fatal mistake. I've seen it happen with job situations, with relationships, and just general life choices. Just because your friend said that a tattoo of Snoopy on your hipbone would be super cute does not mean it's a good idea.

So I guess my point here is to watch what you internalize when it comes to other peoples' opinions. We get so used to taking everything in when we're in school or when our parents are trying to teach us morals and manners. At a certain point, you need to think for yourself and take everything with a grain of salt - or maybe a handful, depending on the person.
